Open call for national short story contest


Council National Culture and Arts calling on all Mexicans living writers in the country to participate in the National Short Story Prize II "Rafael Ramírez Heredia." The contest is open from February 8 and the deadline for delivery of works is 31 July. The amount of the award, one and indivisible, is 100 thousand dollars and publication of the work.


The National Short Story Award is named after the writer, playwright and journalist Rafael Ramírez Heredia, born in Tampico in 1942 and died in Mexico in October 2006. Ramírez Heredia noted as a novelist and storyteller addition to bullfighting writer and workshop leader of English literature.


Contestants must send or deliver a volume of unpublished stories written in English, not participating in another contest and a minimum of 45 double-spaced pages and 24 to 26 lines. Manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate on letter-size pages, typed or computer standard type 12 Arial, seaming and in an envelope labeled with the pseudonym of the author and title of the work.


The alias must form a minimum of three words and the participant data included in one envelope inserted into the envelope of the texts. The work must be mailed or delivered directly House of Culture of Tamaulipas. The jury will be composed of renowned writers, whose names will be announced at the awards ceremony. The ruling is final and the winner notified immediately.


The award will be presented in November 2009 during the National Fair of the Book, which every year organizes the municipal government of Puerto Tampico, through its Department of Culture. Left to the jury the delivery of honorable mentions. We do not return the originals or copies of the works entries. The previous winner of the first National Short Story Prize "Rafael Ramírez Heredia" can not compete and any case not provided in the call will be resolved by the jury and the Directorate Culture Tampico.
